Leaders from various sectors participated in discussions to launch the Unity and Reconciliation Week
In conjunction with the 73rd anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which falls on December 10th of each year, the National Human Rights Commission, in collaboration with the United Nations Human Rights Office and some Government Institutions, launched a Human Rights Week that will end on December 10th, 2021.
This week will feature various activities that will reflect the global theme: “EQUALITY: Reducing inequalities, advancing human rights”.
These activities aim to sensitize people to the contents of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and what needs to be done to prevent inequality in rights and dignity and its consequences.
To commemorate the 73rd anniversary of the declaration, the Commission has prepared lectures to be given to members of the expanded security council at the provincial level, together with members of the Advisory Committee to Fight Corruption and Injustice at the district level and the Youth Volunteer Committees at the Sector level of the City of Kigali, sensitizing them to the contents of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in fighting inequality in rights and dignity; providing messages to be broadcast on Radio and Television on the role of institutions in fighting inequality and promoting human rights.

The media is requested to continue to be an effective channel for disseminating activities that will take place during the week dedicated to human rights, bringing them to the public and sensitizing them to continue respecting the rights of everyone. It is also requested to disseminate the contents of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights so that people can better understand and respect them.
The various institutions that are closest to the people are required to respect the obligations to protect the rights of everyone and strive to fight any inequality in the services they provide, so that human rights continue to advance.
Rwandans are required to play a role in the protection and promotion of human rights, including reporting to the relevant institutions where they have been violated, and fulfilling their responsibilities.
