Minister of State Ngarambe Rwego underscored the importance of investing in young athletes, describing sport as a powerful tool for youth development, national pride, and international competitiveness
Minister of State in Minisport Ngarambe Rwego has officially launched the 2026 Sports Talent Development Camp at Collège Saint André, marking the start of a nationwide initiative aimed at identifying and developing Rwanda’s future sporting stars.
The camp, which is taking place across all five provinces of Rwanda, has brought together more than 2,100 young athletes, as well as aspiring referees and first aiders, creating a comprehensive platform for talent development beyond athletic performance.
Running from 27 July to 10 August 2026, the programme is designed to scout promising talent, improve technical skills, and provide participants with the knowledge and discipline required to excel in their respective sports.

Speaking during the opening ceremony, Minister of State Ngarambe Rwego underscored the importance of investing in young athletes, describing sport as a powerful tool for youth development, national pride, and international competitiveness. He encouraged participants to make the most of the opportunity by demonstrating commitment, discipline, and teamwork throughout the camp.
The Sports Talent Development Camp forms part of Rwanda’s broader strategy to strengthen grassroots sports and build a sustainable pipeline of athletes capable of representing the country at regional, continental, and global competitions.
In addition to sports training, participants will benefit from mentorship, officiating education for young referees, and basic emergency response skills for first aiders, ensuring a holistic approach to sports development.

Organizers say the camp will help identify exceptional talent from across the country while fostering values such as leadership, discipline, fair play, and teamwork among Rwanda’s young people.
The initiative is expected to play a key role in preparing the next generation of athletes who will represent Rwanda on the international stage, reinforcing the country’s commitment to developing sport as a driver of excellence and national development.
