Eating fish prevents malnutrition.
Rwandans are being urged to eat fish in order to combat malnutrition and obesity, to realize that it is rich in nutrients, and to break the stereotype that eating fish requires significant resources.
This was reiterated by the National Child Development and Protection Agency (NCDA) Officer, Nathan Kabanguka, during a campaign held in Rusizi and Nyamasheke Districts, aimed at encouraging people to eat fish and fish products, with the aim of fighting malnutrition.
Oscar Ntihuga, Head of Fish Farming at Kivu Choice, says that the quality standards have helped them in their activities, enabling them to export fish to the market that helps Rwandans have a balanced diet.
“We use the quality standards in our activities, whether it is on the fish farming equipment we import, in our daily operations, the food we feed the fish, preserving the produce and delivering it to the market.” He said.
“Fish is rich in nutrients, therefore it is very valuable, it is necessary for people to eat it and have a good health.”Kabanguka said.

He thanked those who continued to contribute to increasing fish production and encouraged Rwandans to eat more fish and seafood because they contain nutrients that fight malnutrition, especially obesity in children.
“The fact that fish production continues to increase is commendable. Traders are distributing it to the community so that a balanced diet is available to everyone.” He said.
Hakizimana Naivasha Bella, a Quality Assurance Officer at RSB, says that various measures have been taken to ensure that fish production continues to help Rwandans achieve good nutrition.

Naivasha, who works at RSB, says eating quality fish prevents the spread of diseases caused by malnutrition.
“RSB, in collaboration with MINAGRI and other partners, has established quality guidelines for fish farming that address the quality of fish feed, equipment and practices, and production sustainability.” She said,
The Rwandan government is continuing its efforts to introduce new fish species for aquaculture, which have helped increase production, facilitate foreign investors to invest in modern fish farming, and help farmers obtain quality fish and shellfish.
RAB indicates that the increase in fish production in Rwanda is due to increased investment in floating fish farming (a method of farming using floating objects in open water), the presence of professional investors operating in Lakes Kivu, Muhazi, and Ruhondo, and the addition of small fish to various lakes.

Modern fish farming continues to increase fish production in Rwanda
Although fish production continues to increase, Rwandans are among the world’s lowest fish consumers, despite the fact that fish is a nutrient-rich food that promotes heart and brain health, and protects against diseases including high blood pressure, stroke, and diabetes. children.
Rwandans are encouraged to eat fish because it is good, especially domestic fish because it is full of nutrients as soon as it is fished, while fish from abroad is often fished for days.
